Over the past few years, Lowrance has managed to become one of the best-known names in the marine navigation device's market, as it has come up with a very large number of such products, each designed with various consumer categories in mind.
And that's also pretty much the case with the GlobalMap 9200C GPS Chartplotter, released back in the first half of 2007, a device which allows users to safely navigate in just about any region around the world (but US and Hawaii in particular).
Since its main function is related to GPS, the device has been equipped with a 12-channel GPS module (WAAS-enabled), which helps users navigate around the built-in US and Hawaii maps. However, the device also supports a very wide range of extra maps, including here MapCreate USA Topo Accessory Pack, FreedomMaps, Fishing Hot Spots PRO, LakeMaster ProMaps, NauticPath and Navionics. Furthermore, the device stores up to 1000 waypoints, up to 1000 event markers, as well as a man overboard feature and various customizable GPS alarms.
Another important point of attraction of the device from Lowrance is represented by the very wide 16-bit color full VGA SolarMax TFT LCD display (10.4 inches), which offers a display resolution of up to 800 x 600 pixels. Additionally, the device has also been equipped with a cold cathode backlighting system, which allows users to view the contents of the screen, as well as the keypad even in the dark.
It's also very important to mention that the GlobalMap 9200C also comes packed with two MMC/SD memory card slots, a 5-pin Ethernet expansion port and two full RS-232 ports. Additionally, the device also delivers a rather good amount of backup memory, as well as a sealed and waterproof casing, which ensures the fact that the device will survive even when dropped in water.
The GlobalMap 9200C GPS Chartplotter from Lowrance can be found quite easily at various retailers for an estimated 1,630 – 1,700 US dollars, which is not even that high a sum, given just how useful this thing could turn out to be for most sailors out there. |
