As our planet's natural resources are slowly, but surely nearing depletion, the need for a clean, alternative power source is becoming increasingly dire, one of the best chances for the future belonging to solar power. And one company that's decided to jump early on the solar bandwagon is ICP Solar, who developed and launched the Sunsei Solar Charger SE-1200 model, a solar charger capable of providing just about enough power to charge the batteries installed on a small boat, a RV or even a small, remote cabin.
Much in the same way as in the case of other models developed by the same company, the main function of the SE-1200 is to keep the battery it's connected to charged even where there's no “normal” source of power at hand. Moreover, the battery is in no danger of draining, since the device protects it against natural battery discharge, and the device works right out of the box, providing immediate trickle-charge as soon as it's exposed to sunlight, even through windows or windshields.
The device presented by ICP solar has been engineered in order to maintain the power of the 12V starting battery, and provides a power level of around 1200mA, 15V (18W). Since it's a lot more powerful than some of the previous models, this version requires a power regulator in order to function properly, but, much like all the other models, it's also easy to install and even to connect in a series.
The solar charger also sports a touch-action indicator that lets the users know whenever the panel is charging and doesn't occupy too much space around the car, as it measures just around 100.0 cm x 35.0 cm x 3.0 cm, at a weight of 4.3 kilograms, quite heavier than its predecessors.
The Sunsei Solar Charger SE-1200 retails for around 160 US dollars, which is actually quite a fair price to pay for this device if we take into consideration its level of versatility, as well as the amount of power it can generate. |
