The iPod has occupied the position of the world's best known and most popular portable media player for quite some time now, so it's no wonder that a very large number of manufacturers have come up with all sorts of accessories for Apple's device. And since the functioning life is quite an important issue in the case of any portable device (and especially in the case of the iPod), the Tekkeon company has launched back in the first half of 2006 the myPower for iPod, an all-in-one rechargeable battery and portable dock for iPod that provides up to 42 hours of extended music playback and more than 15 hours of extra video playback.
However, the device from Tekkeon is more than a simple battery or charger. Thus, the myPower includes a line out for connection to a stereo, FireWire and USB 2.0 ports for rapid syncing to download and manage music, and an optional charging port for charging 5V devices like mobile phones and digital cameras.
The secret of the myPower charger is, obviously, its built-in lithium polymer battery, which provides a very good level of efficiency and helps extend the life of iPod's internal battery. Moreover, since the device has been especially designed for users on the go, the myPower for iPod doubles as a cradle with an internal dock connector and removable belt clip.
The device is available in 2 different models and 2 different colors, namely the MP1100 (which doesn't have a FireWire power adapter), and then the MP1140, which comes with a FireAdapter and is also available in both black and white. Moreover, it features an on/off switch, used for saving power when the device is not in use.
The myPower for the iPod (the version with FireWire adapter) retails for around 70 US dollars, which is quite a fair price to pay for a device that will help users listen to their iPod for just about as long as they like. |
