Extremely expensive complication watches are somewhat of a "house special" at Patek Philippe, the company releasing quite a large number of different models, although the actual number of units produced is far less impressive. And that's exactly the type of product we'll talk about as follows, namely the Men's Grand Complications 5004G, which delivers several very attractive functions besides its basic one, of telling the time.
The core of the 5004G is represented by the Caliber CHR 27-70 Q mechanism, a mechanical winding movement whose tensioned mainspring drives the wheels inside the watch as it gradually relaxes. The mechanism has a total diameter of 30 mm, a thickness of around 8.86 mm, includes 28 jewels and generates around 18,000 vibrations each hour. Furthermore, the CHR 27-70 Q features 407 different parts and offers quite an impressive power reserve, of around 60 hours.
Now that we've talked about the movement, it's time to see how this very complex mechanism is put to use. Thus, besides the time, the watch offers a perpetual calendar with a 24-hour display and a precision moon phase mechanism. Complemented with an ingenious rattrapante device, the Ref. 5004 split seconds chronograph is considered by Patek Philippe one of the most advanced chronographs they've ever come up with.
It's also interesting to note that the watch sports an interchangeable full back and sapphire crystal case back, with the case being waterproof down to a depth of around 30 meters. And since we're on the subject of the case, it's also quite interesting to note the fact that the watch is available in several different versions, manufactured either from white or yellow gold and featuring a black or a white dial. Furthermore, the color of the bracelet can also be customized according to the future user's taste.
Pretty much like any other Patek Philippe timepiece, the Men's Grand Complications 5004G has a rather mind-boggling price tag, of around 180,000 US dollars, which means that you probably must have a very fat bank account if you're actually considering a purchase. |
