Timepieces and diamonds seem to be forming quite an interesting and popular team for quite a long time, but especially these days, when everything is about luxury, with a fairly large number of watchmakers hitting the market with such high-end, extremely expensive products.
And that's also the case with the 103.6 Edition Speciale Joaillerie from Urwerk, launched back in the first half of 2006, a limited edition "adorned" with the aforementioned precious gemstones but which provides the same level of functionality as all of the other models from the 103 family.
Thus, the timepiece features 227 high-quality (VVS) Top Wesselton diamonds handset into the case, crown and dial, mounting up to a total weight of around 5.28 carats. The dial also features a fine circular perlage finish. Besides this very exquisite external casing, the 103.6 Edition Speciale Joaillerie is similar in almost all regards with all of the other models from the 103 family. Thus, it has the same time indication system, which consists of orbiting hour satellites that pass the arc of the minutes.
Moreover, the slanting sides of the hour satellites ensure a direct view of the time without turning the wrist, even while driving, while bold SuperLumiNova provides excellent visibility by both day and night. Quite obviously, the main point of attraction of the 103.6 is also represented by the rotating satellite complication, which features an orbital cross that carries the four hour-satellites, with an internal Geneva cross governing each of these satellites. Each of the satellites features three hour numbers, and while a satellite approaches the crown, its Geneva cross engages a pin which rotates the disk 120-degree so that the new hour takes its position.
Another innovation included in the 103 platform is the fine-tuning screw, a precision adjustment function allowing the user the possibility of adjusting the watch's timing up to 30 seconds +/- per day. This enables the watch to be adapted to changing lifestyle or wearing habits which may influence the timing. The half-slotted adjustment screw points to a surrounding scale clearly defining its function.
Although finding the exact price tag for the 103.6 Edition Speciale Joaillerie is not exactly an easy task, you should know that this timepiece is extremely expensive. After all, the basic version retails for over 50,000 US dollars, so a model featuring that many diamonds will most likely cost a lot more. |
