The world of LCD monitors is certainly not without choice. All companies big and small have tens of models to show of. Bigger names like Sony or Samsung can afford to experiment with more exotic specimens like Sony's slim (TV) LCDs series . Others have to stick with standard models or even beg bigger companies to allow rebranding.
But there is one big name out there that doesn't have such a big portfolio when it comes to its products. If the name Apple means anything to you then you know what I'm talking about. Apple is the kinf of company that doesn't really play by the rules. Most companies usually release new series of product, while Apple only releases one base product and maybe offers a few variations to it (like the different size iPod players).
One of its latest announcements concerns a new LCD monitor for Macs (and PCs) called LED Cinema Display. As the name suggests, the newcomer uses LED display technology which is known for superior image quality and high contrast rate. LED display technology is usually used by professional photographers and digital image artist for better color reproduction.
The 24” display comes with an integrated iSight camera, speakers and microphone. As Apple is known to provide top notch products (at considerable higher prices) that prove to be just above other alternatives, the new LCD is no exception. The display comes with an Apple-like design wrapping up all of the above (and more) mentioned features in a glass and aluminum enclosure. Also the 3 USB ports should come in handy for USB sticks and other portable devices.
The device comes with a built-in MagSafe charger and integrates a mini DisplayPort connector that should make MacBook connections a no-brainer. The MagSage charger is a good addition since MacBook users can leave their chargers at home, which in the end adds up (or should I say substracts) to the portable concept.
As far as standard specifications go, like most 24” LCDs, the new Cinema has an 1920 x 1200 resolution making it Full HD compliant. The LED technology should also save you some money when it comes to electric bills.
At the time of the announcement the monitor comes at an RRP of 899$. |
