GStor Plus is a new HDD model built on ExcelStor's highly successful Jupiter series HDD platform, that, unlike any usual HDD haves many other features on the side. It features a 80GB ATA100, 7200RPM, 2MB cache and 8.2ms seek time, but it also features hardware protections for data an back-up like: anti spyware and pop-up blocker, built-in backup and antivirus, data encryption, multi-boot, and password authentication, all hardware based.



Lately, ExcelStor's products seem to have completely vanished from the market but actually this brand still has some plans left. This particular product represents the latest trend started by the manufacturer, as it turns out, the company will no longer produce standalone storage devices but will probably develop an entire line based on hardware-protected disk drives. And the GStor plus lives up to its name when it comes to security. Larger models with higher performance parts are also expected to come out as soon as the company develops larger platters and heads that can sustain faster data transfer.



Performance-wise, the UATA 100 hard disk drive is no head turner in terms of read / write speeds. The 64-bit hardware encryption slows down the unit even more but it also has a positive effect especially if you like to protect your data without having to use an expensive solution. This unit is indeed a best-bang-for-the-buck in terms of data storage and comes with a built-in multi-boot feature. As a result all the partitions can act as single drives with master / active / primary setup available for all of them.



As a direct result you can install operating systems on all the partitions available on the drive. The 64-bit encryption algorithm is far from perfect but 128-bit encryption will be available on the next months for this type of HDD. Price-wise, the 80GB model can be yours for about $50.
