Micro Star International is a company that manufactures graphic cards, motherboards, portable systems, graphic cards and other networking devices and consumable electronics. Concerning the development of graphic cards, MSI is among the companies that offer graphic cards from the two most important GPU developers, namely NVIDIA and ATI.
Their lineup of NVIDIA-based graphics cards includes standard versions of the GPU, but also tuned and tweaked versions that can offer enhanced performance stats. And one of their 8800GTX based graphic cards is an OC, which stands for overclocked, version of the above mentioned GPU, which comes with a two slot active air cooling system. The guys at MSI took the standard 8800GTX GPU and offered it a boost of GPU clock speed of about 35 MHz, brining it to a total of 610 MHz. Additionally the memory clock has been changed to 2000MHz, thus further increasing the performance stats of this already out of the standard graphic card.
The 8800 GTX based graphic cards have the undesired feature of physically occupying two PCI slots, so this means if you intend on using the SLI capability of the NX8800GTX you will have to invest in a motherboard that not only offers SLI mode, but also has enough space to support two graphic cards. The card will also need a strong power supply, since the minimum recommended is set around 500 W.
The card has native support for Microsoft DirectX 10 and OpenGL 2.0 which means that all the extreme gamers out there will enjoy high quality graphics with their latest games. And if you aren't a gaming enthusiast, the support for full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 will give you the possibility of to enjoy every HD movie at the best quality available.
The card is priced around the $550 area, which isn't bad, considering everything this device has to offer. |
