People might think that monitors are getting pretty plain nowadays, just rectangular shaped plastic cases with a LCD panel inside and a few controls on the side. Well, besides companies that work on developing 3D displays and more exotic stuff, Samsung decided to spice things up a bit by introducing the SyncMaster 2263DX.
It is a regular 22" PC LCD monitor equipped with a TN panel, but the one thing that makes it stand out is the 7" LCD that sits on its right side.
Although many might not find this decision very useful, this type of device could prove to be interesting for people that work with large excel spreadsheets and need to use the calculator application at the same time (accountants come to mind). This is just one example of many. Other users could just place few instant messaging windows on that baby an use the main display for picture editing or other stuff.
The main display is an above average 22" monitor with a 16:10 aspect ratio, 1680x1050 screen resolution, a brightness factor of 300 cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 1000:1. The device both VGA and DVI inputs, and as a bonus Samsung decided to provide HDMI 1.3 input. On the audio side the monitor comes with microphone and headphone 3.5mm jack connectors. The integrated stereo speakers provide standard quality sound and the top fitted 3.0Mpixel webcam will prove useful for instant messaging freaks.
The little brother sitting next to the main display might be somewhat shy. This one sports a resolution of 800x480 pixels, which is mainly used on high end GPS devices that come with large displays. It provides a 400 to 1 contrast ratio and has a brightness factor of 200 cd/m2. The big problem with the little one is that it has a response time of 30ms, so you might want to keep basic applications on it. Trying to watch a music video or youtube clips on it could result in a not to pretty experience.
The entire ensemble is painted black and comes with a glossy finish. The product sits in the 449$-499$ price range and comes packed with everything you need to get it up and running. Samsung also provides a DVi cable, a gesture not followed by all of todays monitor manufacturers. |
