Aside from the strong position currently held by Gigabyte in the motherboard segment, they are also one of the biggest ATI integrators in the value and mainstream segments. As for high-end products, Gigabyte's own RV580+ and later on R600 series were and still are pretty rare on the marked due to the absence of a strong channel representation.
Currently, one of the best offer coming from Gigabyte in terms of ATI/AMD GPUs is an R600-based HD 2900XT graphic card dubbed "GV-RX29T512VH-B". This product has been tuned to properly work in multi-GPU environments. This means it is compatible with ATI's CrossFire technology, allowing for some enhanced graphics. The presence of 512-bit GDDR3 memory chips with a total capacity of 512MB enables a very high performance index especially when running 3D games at very high resolutions with HDR and AA features enabled.
The R600 GPU uses no less than 320 unified shader units which helps it deliver good (if not great) frame rates even at high resolutions. The GPU comes clocked at 740MHz which is the stock clock speed for all HD 2900 XT parts and alongside it 512MB of GDDR3 are clocked at 1.65GHz. The 512-bit chips provide a bandwidth comparable to the 8800 Ultra graphic cards, but the results in most games are only comparable to the GTS cards.
Gigabyte's HD 2900XT also offers impressive video quality as its Avivo engine can accelerate all types of HD video inputs (including MPEG-2,MPEG-4, VC-1 and H.264 ones). If you only want a graphic card that will offer you excellent HD support and decent gaming technology, the HD 2600 and HD 2400 will be the right choice. This HD 2x00 graphic card is more suited for the enthusiast range, as it can purchased at maximum price tag of $500. |
