Western Digital is one of the leading manufacturers of computer storage devices. They take great pride in a product range that can satisfy the needs of both business, enthusiast and normal users. As far as enthusiasts go, the company's Raptor series are known for achieving some of the most impressive performance rates for ultimate gaming rigs. It seems that the company decided to take the success they had with the Raptor hard drives and offer users an evolved version of these HDDs.
Born from the first Raptors, the new VelociRaptor HDD is said to further increase the performance levels achieved by the earlier products. The new hard drives provide a total rotational speed of 10000 RPM for each unit. These numbers are said to offer the VelociRaptors an upgrade in performance speed of about 35%. The new hard drives are built with support for a SATA 3 GB/s interface and provide up to 16 MB of cache level, so we are to expect the new VelociRaptors to have an improved response time.
The real change in the new product lineup is revealed once you get to the storage part, as the new Western Digital Hard drives offer some serious improvement. As some of you enthusiast users out there know, the Raptors were only good for operating systems, as they brought incredible rotation speeds, but only offered a total of 150GB of storage space. With the new VelociRaptors, users will be able to benefit from up to 300GB of storage space, double the size of the earlier version. In the end, this means that you will be able to access your data faster than ever.
Interestingly enough, the new VelociRaptors are featured in 3.5 inch enterprise-class mounting frame with a built-in heat sink that keeps this powerful little drive extra cool when installed in high-performance desktop chassis. |
