There are 3 main components that come together when using a computer. The unit (the actual computer), keyboard&mouse combo and the monitor. Without the monitor we would just tap keys blindly since there would be no way for us to know what we where actually doing.
The VK222H is an 22” Asus LCD monitor. The company is one of the world's most praised hardware manufacturer. Raging from simple optic drives and cases, to high performance graphic cards and notebooks. It's line of LCD monitors has always had a few extra touches like rotating panels or touch sensitive led lit controls and the VK222H is no lower than it's ancestors. It comes with a built-in high quality 1.3Mpixel webcam for instant start of video communications, and since it comes with plug&play and Windows Vista Premium certification there is no need for drivers (at least when it comes to Vista and XP).
Asus uses it's Smart Control Ratio algorithm to dynamically adjust the contrast between different scenes so that the overall contrast ratio is rated at 5000:1. Gamers will certainly smile at the 2ms GTG response time that is sure to allow them high speed fraging with ghost free images.
If movies are your main concern (get yourself an LCD TV) you will be happy to know the VK222H has a 16:10 widescreen aspect ratio which is perfect for watching HD movies. Yes, the device comes with a 1680 x 1050 resolution. This is beyond HD Ready but below Full HD. If widescreen is not your thing there is also a 4:3 aspect ratio mode so the image doesn't get stretched or distorted in anyway.
Asus has been promoting its Splendid video enhancing technology for some time now and it has made its to the VK222H. This offers the monitor 4 preset adjustments for improved experience. The Scenery mode provides contrast/brightness improvement for better landscape rendering. Gaming mode was developed for high saturation levels and detailed images. Theater Mode calibrates the sharpness and contrast of an image in order to provide for a more vibrant playback experience. And finally the Night Mode used to enhance low light scenes in movies or games.
Connection wise, the LCD comes with DVI, VGA, two 3.5 audio jacks for audio input and output, and the more and more popular HDMI. HDMI will allow users to enjoy both audio and video using just one digital connection between the monitor and source. Yes, it's true, I said audio because the VK222H comes with a set of 4W (2x2W) stereo speakers.
The ASUS VK222H comes complete with all needed cable like VGA, DVI, USB (for webcam), audio and power cord. Unfortunately the company did not bundle an HDMI cable, but with a 359$ price point you can't really complain. |
