Samsung has been the undisputed leader of the TFT LCD monitors' market over the past few years, and one of the factors that led to this “iron-fisted” dominance has been the fact that they've kept pushing new and improved models on the market at quite a phenomenal rate. And one such monitor is exactly the type of product we'll talk about as follows, namely the 953BW, released in the first half of 2008, which delivers some pretty impressive features for a 19-inch model.
Quite obviously, the most important features this product has to offer is related to its display, which delivers an 1440 x 900 pixels resolution, a brightness level of 300 cd/m2, as well as a 5 ms response time (2 ms gray-to-gray). Moreover, the device offers some OK contrast ratios as well (8000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 1000:1 static contrast ratio), while the viewing angles are rather normal for this range of devices (170/160 degrees).
The connectivity options included on the 953BW are rather standard, since we're dealing solely with 15pin D-SUB and a DVI-D connectors (HDCP supported, though, which was rather to be expected for any new release). Moreover, the monitor requires a fairly low amount of power during normal operation mode, namely just around 34 watts.
Additionally, the PC monitor also sports a rather large number of useful extra-features, as for example MagicBright3, Off timer, Image Size,Color Effect,Customized key,MagicWizard & MagicTune with AssetManagement, or Safe Mode (DownScaling in UXGA). Unfortunately, the position adjustment options are not exactly fantastic, namely just basic tilting and height adjustment (pivot and swiveling solely optional).
The device will occupy a fairly small amount of space around the users' office (measures just around 17.6 inches x 14.2 inches x 7.5 inches, at a weight of around 8.6 pounds). Moreover, the 953BW is not even that expensive, since it has a MSRP of around 240 US dollars, which will most likely go down even further on the future. |
