OK, so you like to listen to your MP3 player, in order to catch up with your favorite radio shows while out in the city, but you aren't at all happy with the sound you get as you are in crowded, noisy places. Indeed traffic noise, people chattering and many more sounds like this can really wreck your listening pleasure for good.

Well, in case you don't want such an unfortunate experience to "come knocking at your door" every time you enter noisy environments, let alone travel by train or plane, some good noise canceling headphones are the natural choice. And since you plan to spend some money on high-tech gear, why not choosing from the elite products of this type? Go and take a look, and a good listen to the JVC HA-NCX77 and see your problem solved.

The JVC HA-NCX77 are in-ear noise canceling headphones, running on two noise reduction principles, both passive and active, for a high-quality sonic experience in critical environments. As a matter of fact, these headphones manage to take of 14 dB from the acoustic level of the external noise; this means up to 80% from the parasite noise being filtered for your listening comfort.  The passive principle is simple and it uses special in-canal rubber sleeves attached to the earphones: their design is essential in correctly and comfortably fitting the ear pieces in the listener's ear and thus blocking the incoming sound. The JVC HA-NCX77 buds are very flexible and will accommodate exceptionally in most ears; if not, this headsets also come with 3 differently-sized buds!

The active noise reduction is made via a separate small module containing the critical circuitry for filtering the noise by creating an anti-phase wave to neutralize the incoming sound. Just in case you want to check if your (non-vibrating or home) phone rings or you want to talk to someone, just press the bypass switch on the module to kill the active filtering. The module is powered by an AA battery, running for up to 70 hours if the battery is alkaline. The JVC HA-NCX77 deliver an 8 to 24 ,000 Hz response with either 90 or 91 dB sensitivity (noise module On and Off, respectively), retailing for $79.95 together with carrying case, an AAA battery, dual plug adapter and spare S/M/L ear buds.

This headphones offer no active noise cancellation whatsoever. Sure, it looks like it should. There's a place for a battery, an on-off switch, and a cute little monitor feature. And, although I found the information about have active noise-cancellation SHOULD work quite interesting, I'm not convinces that it's relevant to this product. Turning the device on and off in a noise environment produced no discernible difference in ambient noise. Spend your money on something mildly useful. What's worse? You can't even separate the ear phones to use without the bulky electronics. And, it would be an attractive product, if I was stuck in the 90s and locked inside Sharper Image.
