Since Packard-Bell has launched quite a comprehensive line-up of HDD-based solutions over time, it was to be expected that they would also come up at some point with a network attached version. This happened back in the second half of 2006, when the company released the Netstore 3500 series, a family of external HDDs that provide both relatively large storage spaces and multiple connectivity options.
From the design point of view, the Netstore 3500 resembles closely the other devices launched by Packard Bell. Thus, it features a black aluminum casing, designed to protect the fragile HDDs stored inside. And speaking of HDDs, it's worth mentioning the fact that the model incorporates a 3.5-inch SATA HDD, which rotates at 7200rpm and is available in 2 versions: 320 GB and 500 GB.
As mentioned earlier, the Netstore 3500 offers users multiple connectivity options. Thus, it can connect to a computing system via USB, which means that it can attain maximum transfer speeds of up to 480 Mbps, but also includes an Ethernet port, which allows it to be attached to a network. Moreover, it sports a LED indicator, which informs users whether the device is switched on or data is being transferred, and, unlike the other models from Packard-Bell, it also incorporates a power adapter.
Much in same way as most of the other devices of this type currently available on the market, the Netstore 3500 also comes packed with a back-up feature, namely the PB data secure software, which allows users to carry out fast and secure back-up operations. Moreover, since we're talking about a NAS, the device also comes packed with FTP Server software.
The Netstore 3500 retails for around 195 US dollars (the 320 GB version), which is quite an average price to pay for this relatively average network storage solution. |
