Although it encountered some pretty rough times in the past, the Packard-Bell company has managed to re-establish itself as an important player on the European computer accessories' market. And one of the important products that helped it get there has been the Store and Save series of external HDDs, launched back in 2005, a family of devices that offered some pretty interesting features, at least at the time of their launch.
The devices from this family offer just about anything one might expect from an external storage solutions, but, unfortunately, that's about it. Thus, the models from the Store and Save range are encased in an aluminum shell, which is designed to look good but also protect the HDDs stored inside. And since we're on the subject of HDDs, it's worth mentioning the fact that each model from the series incorporates a 3.5-inch IDE HDD with an 8 MB buffer and a 500 GB storage capacity.
The drives connect to a computing system via USB, which means that they can attain maximum transfer speeds of up to 480 Mbps, and also sport a LED indicator, which informs users whether the device is switched on or data is being transferred. Moreover, they'll occupy a relatively low space in the vicinity of the user's computer, as they measure just 110 x 195 x 29 mm, at a weight of around 830 grams.
Much in the same way as many of the similar devices currently available on the market, the external HDDs from the Store and Save series also come packed with a back-up feature, namely the PB data secure software, which allows users to carry out fast and secure back-up operations.
The devices from the Store and Save series are very difficult to find nowadays, but they're still available at a limited number of retailers at some relatively acceptable price tags. |
