Although from the point of view of the diagonal size, the PX212M could be considered the entry-level model from Planar's PX series, the truth of the matter is that some of its features are superior to those provided by the other products from this family. However, the fact that this device's initial design dates back to 2003 could be considered somewhat of a drawback, at least at a first sight.
Thus, the monitor sports a 21.3 -inch TFT LCD Active Matrix Flat Panel, which can display images at resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 pixels (UXGA) and offers an 1000:1 contrast ratio, as well as 16.7 million colors. Furthermore, the PX212M features a brightness level of 300 cd/m2, a 0.270 mm x 0.270 mm pixel pitch, as well as a rather poor response time, of just around 8 ms (gray-to-gray with RapidVideo accelerator, 16 ms on/off).
Moreover, the viewing angles are also rather normal for this type of devices, namely 178 degrees horizontal and vertical, and the manufacturer also points out the fact that the panel sports an anti-glare and anti-reflection coating for high contrast in bright environments.
Compared to the other models from Planar's PX series, this particular PC monitor provides quite a big surprise in the area of connectivity because it also sports S-Video and Composite inputs, beside the already classical DVI-D (HDCP-supported), VGA and audio-in interfaces. And if you were wondering what the audio-in is used for, you should know that the PX212M also sports built-in TrueMedia speakers (1 W/channel). Furthermore, the device also features a headphone jack, for those users who desire a bit of privacy, and, due to the numerous connectivity options, it also incorporates a PIP function.
Moreover, the peripheral has been fitted with Planar's ergonomic QuadStand with swivel, tilt and height adjustments. Additionally, the device sports a 100x100mm VESA mount and a Kensington Security slot.
The PX212M can be found at several retailers for around 800 – 1000 US dollars, which is, undoubtedly, quite a high price, but it's probably worth it, taking into account all the features this thing has to offer. |
