Since gaming is quite different from normal computer-related activities, the people who really want to take their gaming skills to the next level generally need to replace their normal, everyday peripherals with special versions, specifically designed in order to fit the specific control requirements of PC games. And this is exactly the type of device we'll talk about as follows, namely the Warrior Xxtreme launched by WolfKing back in November 2007, a peripheral which the company touts to be the world's first 2-in-1 PC gamepad and keyboard.
The Warrior Xxtreme is largely based on the company's previous Warrior model, but adds quite a large number of interesting features. Thus, this version combines the original circular 54-key disc of the Warrior model with 40 additional keys in a modif ied “QWERTY” arrangement on a second attached disc. This creates an easily portable mini-keyboard, eliminating the keys unneeded for gaming.
However, the Xxtreme model also provides certain special features of its own, as for example the new “Blue Moon” backlight that has been added to the keys, which makes it quite good for playing in low-light conditions, while the two USB 2.0 ports incorporated into the Xxtreme allow gamers to hook up other devices such as gaming mice and headphones.
Like the original Warrior, the Warrior Xxtreme uses standard USB keyboard drivers and requires no additional software for either Mac or Windows OS. Other features retained from the original WARRIOR include built-in volume controls and the 3-layer silicon membrane for extremely quiet use with a lifespan of over 10 million keystrokes.
The device from WolfKing will retail for around 80 US dollars, which is not that high a price, taking into account just how useful this thing might prove to be for all the true hardcore gaming fans out there. |
