The German company TrekStor is known for mainly two types of products: portable media players and storage solutions, whether we're talking about small, flash-based devices or NAS units. And actually, this is exactly the case with the following model, the DataStation Sungoo LAN, launched back in the first half of 2008, a device that offers users two very important features: ease of use and a high storage capacity. Since this device will most likely be used primarily for back-up operations, we'll start by talking about the actual storage capacity it can provide. Thus, the DataStation Sungoo LAN is available in several different versions, namely 320 GB, 400 GB, 500 GB, 640 GB, 750 GB, 1 TB, which can only be described as rather standard (after all, 4 GB have become pretty much the norm for NAS products). Given this rather diverse range of capacities, it's actually pretty clear that the drives within each particular Sungoo model are also quite different. Thus, the buffer sizes vary between 8 MB and 32 MB, while the speed of the drives is of either 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM. As mentioned earlier, another major plus of the DataStation Sungoo LAN is the fact that it's extremely user-friendly. Thus, the device is configuration-free (no prior networking-related knowledge is required) and also supports a “push for backup” function (it really doesn't get easier than this). Moreover, it offers a high level of usability, since, when connected to a network, it can ca be accessed by up to 64 users. Additionally, the device provides both RAID 0 and RAID 1 support for automatic backup (data mirroring) and comes preformatted, immediately operable without driver. As far as the connectivity options are concerned, it's important to mention that the DataStation Sungoo LAN has been equipped with an Autosense 10/100 Base-T RJ45 Ethernet interface, as well as with an USB 2.0 interface, for control purposes. Another major selling point of the NAS device from TrekStor is represented by its high level of versatility, since it works quite well with just about all of the operating systems on the market, including here Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Mac OS X from 10.3.x, Linux from Kernel 2.6.x. For this reason, it's no wonder that it's compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac file systems. |
