Bluetooth USB adapters have become quite popular over the past few years, as they allow even the users of computing systems that don't come with built-in Bluetooth modules right out of the box to enjoy the level of versatility provided by this method of data transfer and communication. And that's also the reason why the NovoMax company has launched its BT D550, a Bluetooth USB adapter (or dongle, as it's also known) which might really come in handy for connecting a wide array of devices to the respective computer, ranging from mobile phones to printers and cameras.
The most important features provided by the BT D550 are related, quite obviously, to the functioning range and data transfer speeds. Thus, the dongle can work both as a Class I or a Class II Bluetooth device, which means that it offers an overall functioning range of around 10 meters / 100 meters in open space (depending on the chosen functioning mode). Moreover, like most of the other Bluetooth products on the market, it works on the 2.4GHz Unlicensed ISM band, which it can tap into via the built-in antenna.
Furthermore, it's also important to note the fact that the BT D550 offers some pretty good data transfer rates, namely around 3 Mbps/2.1 Mbps, also depending on the mode. The manufacturer also points out the fact that the device is compliant with the Bluetooth V2.0+EDR specification and that is supports 1280-bit encryption.
The Bluetooth dongle from NovoMax also works with the most common operating systems around, namely Windows98SE / Windows ME / Windows2000 / Windows XP / Vista. Unfortunately, though, finding a specific price for this thing hasn't been exactly easy, as this thing can be purchased mostly on wholesale basis from various Chinese suppliers. |
