It's quite a well-known fact that Sony has always marketed its famous gaming console, the PS3, as being more than a dedicated gaming machine, but more of an entertainment center, allowing users to enjoy other types of content beside video games. However, the connectivity options provided by the PlayStation 3 right out the box might not be quite enough for some power users, and for this reason, the Nyko company, a renowned manufacturer of various accessories for gaming consoles, has launched the Media Hub+, a 3-port USB Hub and Card Reader designed especially to work with Sony's machine.
Hence, the Media Hub+ adds 3 supplementary USB ports, which can be used for charging Dual Shock or SIXAXIS controllers, connecting multiple USB controllers such as guitars and drums, or attaching USB devices such as the PSP, iPod or thumb drives. The device connects to the console via one of its available USB ports, but the “loss” of a port is a small price to pay for the features this thing can provide.
However, beside being an USB hub, the device also features a built-in memory card reader. The included reader is compatible with both SD Cards and Memory Sticks, allowing users to view and transfer photos and/or movies into the gaming console's internal memory.
Another interesting fact worth mentioning about the Media Hub+ is that it has been specially designed in order to match the overall external design of the PS3. Thus, the accessory from Nyko matches quite well the piano black finish of the gaming console from Sony, whether its placed in horizontal or vertical positions. Moreover, the hub is completely powered by the PS3, no batteries or additional wires being necessary.
The Nyko Media Hub+ can be purchased online for around 15 – 23 US dollars, which is actually a pretty good deal, especially for those users who have actually transformed the PS3 into the centerpiece of their home entertainment center. |
