For various reasons, quite a large number of people require more than a single monitor for their desktop PCs, which can prove to be quite a serious issue, especially for those users whose systems do not have the necessary outputs in order to support multiple monitors. And this is exactly the reasons why the people over at Sewell launched back in the second half of 2007 their USB to DVI Adapter High Resolution, a device that supports up to six simultaneous displays, providing the best possible video quality for each of them.
Basically, the adapter essentially acts as an external video card carrying a heavy payload of RAM (256 MB, to be more precise) that most mid to high range standard video cards these days carry. The large amount of memory allows the adapter to perform like a standard video card, and the USB pipeline (maxing out at around 480 Mbps) is more than enough bandwidth to provide top-notch video connectivity. Moreover, the device allows users to connect up to 6 displays to a single display simultaneously, thus allowing users to carry out various operations in the same time on several displays.
Thus, the device supports resolutions of 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960, 1280x1024, 1600x1200, which is quite enough, even for the most demanding users. It also includes just the absolutely necessary number of connectors, namely an USB 2.0 interface plus a DVI-I 24pin + 5pin female connector.
Furthermore, the device can be very easily carried around, as it measures around 84.3 mm x 54 mm x 17.8 mm. However, it's not very cheap, as it retails for around 150 US dollars, a rather high price to pay just for an adapter, although the people who actually require such a device will most likely cough up the money. |
