The people over at Tech Edge Corp have launched quite a large number of portable storage solutions over the yars, including several models “disguised” as ordinary, everyday watches. And that's exactly the type of device we'll talk about as follows, namely the DiskGO USB Watch Drive – Steel Dress series, released back in January 2004, a device that provides quite a serious amount of storage capacity in the metallic body of a fully-functional watch.
Thus, the face of the watch hides up the 2GB of flash memory that can be connected, via USB port, to any modern PC or Mac. More than a sharp-looking watch, the DiskGO USB Watch Drive - Steel Dress series is a fully functioning USB flash drive, plugging directly into a computer's USB port and appearing as a hard drive on your desktop. The DiskGO USB Watch Drive allows easy transfer and storage of digital photos, songs, and all other important files. Secure password protection software is built-in for added security.
Moreover, the device assures some pretty high data storage capacities (256MB / 512MB / 1GB / 2 GB models available), although the data transfer rates are quite low (1000KB/S reading speed, 750KB/s writing speed). The drive also comes packed with password protection software, and works quite well under a wide range of operating systems, namely Windows: 98SE, ME, 2000, Windows XP or later; Linux: 2.4.0 or later; Mac OS 9.x or later; Mac OSX 10.1.5 or later.
The watch module provides some interesting features of its own. Thus, it's water resistant down to 100 meters, shockproof, and can resist an electrical discharge of up to 15,000 volts. The device also features a graphite-colored band with chrome plated case, luminescent hands, a date stamp window and is powered by a rechargeable Li-Ion battery.
The devices from the DiskGO USB Watch Drive – Steel Dress series retail for around $60 - $95, depending on the storage capacity, some more than decent price tags for these double-function time-telling devices. |
