USB flash drives represent the world's most popular portable data storage and transport solutions, as their very small form factor allows users to easily carry around relatively large amounts of data. However, an increasingly higher number of manufacturers are trying to make their products more appealing to the general public by combining them with various other devices, and that's exactly the case with the Edge Tech DiskGO USB 2.0 Flash Drive plus Ink Pen series, which, as the name plainly suggests, doubles as an ordinary pen.
Thus, this rather peculiar device looks exactly like an executive-style ink pen, and has pretty much the same dimensions. Actually, it even sports a sleek, brushed aluminum barrel with cushioned grip for comfort while writing, which means that it can be safely used for its secondary functions as well.
Besides their very special external design, the drives from the DiskGO USB 2.0 Flash Drive plus Ink Pen series come packed with a few nice technical features as well. Thus, they're available in 32MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB and 1GB versions, which are are relatively small values, at least according to today's standards. Nevertheless, they're quite resilient to intensive use, since they're guaranteed to work up to 100,000 transfers, and connect to a host computer via USB 2.0 (for both data transfers and power), thus attaining a maximum data transfer speed of around 480 Mbps.
As most modern USB drives, the pen-shaped devices from Edge Tech also come packed with their own password protection software (in this case, dubbed SecureGuard). Moreover, they work out of the box with a relatively large number of operating systems, including here Windows 98/98SE/Me/2000/XP or later, Linux: 2.4.0 or later, Mac OS 9.x later and Max OSX 10.1.5 or later.
The devices from the Edge Tech DiskGO USB 2.0 Flash Drive plus Ink Pen series are available in the 12-40 US dollars price range, which seem to be some rather high prices, at least from the point of view of the provided storage capacities. |
