The concept of convergence has become extremely important in technological design over the past few years, as almost all the users are quite willing to purchase certain devices that will provide an increased number of functions for the same price tag. And one of the most original and interesting solutions of this type has been presented by the MirrorMedia company back in the first half of 2007, namely a mirror that doubles as a TV set with a built-in multimedia computer.

Thus, the MirrorMedia models look just like ordinary wall-mirrors at first sight. However, upon closer inspection, the mirror becomes “alive”, as it displays images, just like a normal TV set. And that's not all. The TV can even be “combined” with a fully-functional multimedia computer, capable of carrying out various functions, as for example accessing web or e-mail accounts, running PowerPoint presentations, as well as storing and playing MP3 and MPEG video files.

The device can be controlled either via the Internet or intranet, and since it sports a Wireless LAN module, it doesn't even require any wires (beside the power cable, that is). The MirrorTV unit is available in either plasma or LCD flavors (Hitachi PDPs or 20-inch to 46-inch LCD panels) and comes packed with all the necessary connectivity options, including Composite video, Component video, SCART, S-Video and DVI. Moreover, it supports some pretty high display resolutions, of up to 1080i, and incorporates a PAL/SECAM tuner (although a NTSC version is also available).

The built-in multimedia computer is not extremely powerful, but it provides just about enough computing power for the functions it's supposed to carry out. Thus, the device runs on an Intel Celeron 1.3 GHz M CPU, includes 512 MB of SDRAM, a 60-GB 5400 RPM HDD, as well as an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 graphics card. Moreover, the MirrorMedia device sports quite a wide range of connectivity options, including here USB 2.0, FireWire, an Ethernet adapter and (optionally) an Wireless LAN adapter.

Unfortunately, pricing information are not available, since the devices from MirrorMedia only retail via a specialized chain of retailers, but it's quite likely that they're far from being very cheap, considering the numerous functions they're capable of providing.
