The Garmin company has come up with a huge number of products over the past few years, providing a certain solution for just about every segment of the personal navigation solutions' market and even creating some completely new ones. That's also the case with the particular model you're about to see as follows, namely the nuvi 5000, a super-sized navigator designed especially for RV and truck drivers.
Given its target segment, it's no wonder that the display of the nuvi 5000 is quite an impressive one. Thus, the PND has been equipped with a 5.2-inch WVGA color TFT LCD touchscreen with auto dimming backlight, which delivers a 800 x 480 pixels resolution and a 11.4 x 6.9 cm viewing area.
Like most of the company's products, the nuvi 5000 has a very user-friendly interface and works very well right out of the box, since it comes with preloaded City Navigator NT street maps and a large number of points of interest (POIs) such as hotels, restaurants, fuel stations, ATMs and more. Additionally, actually working with the nuvi 5000 is quite a treat, since all that drivers have to do is simply touch the color screen to enter a destination.
From that point on, the device will provide directions via 2-D or 3-D maps and turn-by-turn voice indications. It will also announce the name of exits and streets, so that the user will never have to take their eyes off the road, and its 3-D digital elevation map view gives them fair warning of grade changes. Additionally, the Garmin nuvi 5000 automatically sorts multiple destinations, displays speed limits for highways and interstates and can save up to 10,000 intermediary points.
Like most other similar products available on the market, the Garmin nuvi 5000 also incorporates a couple of very interesting entertainment and travel tools, including MP3 player, audio book player, JPEG picture viewer, currency converters, Garmin Games, alarm clock and more. Furthermore, with the included wireless FM transmitter, users can listen to voice prompts, MP3s and audio books, through the vehicle's stereo system.
The nuvi 5000 sells for an estimated 860 US dollars, which still makes it rather expensive for most users out there, but quite worth it, especially for truckers and RV owners. |
