Since the popularity of GPS system has virtually skyrocketed over the past few years, a very large number of more or less known companies have decided to get involved on this very promising market segment. And one such company is the Taiwan-based Marbella, who, among various other GPS-related products, has also released the NAV-5220 personal navigation device, which delivers a rather average set of functions at quite an affordable price tag.
The main component of the device from Marbella is the SiRF Star III high-sensitivity GPS receiver, which provides 20-channel all-in-view tracking and also provides support for WAAS. Equally important is the built-in 3.5-inch TFT LCD display with touchscreen, capable of delivering a 320 x 240 pixels resolutions and 65,000 colors.
The Marbella NAV-8800 is powered by a Samsung S3C2440, 400 MHz CPU, accompanied by 32 MB of ROM memory and 64 MB of SDRAM memory. All of these components are very useful for running the navigation software, the OS, as well as the device's other additional functions and features.
Additionally, the PND from Marbella can always double as a PMP, since it supports even MP4 files, no to mention viewing JPEGs or listening to MP3s either via the device's own built-in speakers or the 3.5 mm audio jack. All of these functions are powered by the built-in 1600 mAh Li-Ion battery, which offers a fairly long functioning time.
As mentioned earlier, the NAV-5220 is not exactly the most advanced PND around, nor is the most expensive, as it can be found at several retailers for around 280 US dollars, which seems to be a rather fair price tag, taking into account all the features and specs this thing has to offer. |
