Since the number of companies involved on the GPS navigator's market is absolutely huge, the only way in which a newcomer can actually stand a chance is to provide certain unique features that will make its product (or products) a lot more attractive than those of the competition. And that's exactly what the people over at Ndrive have managed to do, since their aerial photography-based navigation system is something no other company had previously managed to do.
One of the latest product from Ndrive to include this system is the NDrive G280R, released back in the first half of 2008, which delivers a relatively interesting set of features, although none of them could actually be described as spectacular.
The device from Ndrive has been built around a Centrality Atlas-III 372MHz CPU, accompanied by 64 MB of SDRAM memory, which is quite enough for running the Windows CE.NET 5.0 operating system. Moreover, the PND sports a rather standard display, namely a 3.5-inch digital TFT LCD 4-wire resistive touch panel.
Additionally, the manufacturer also mentioned that the PND doubles as a multimedia player, since it plays music, videos, shows photos and reads texts (albeit no specific file compatibility data has been provided). The list of the applications provided by the G280R is completed by two games (Bubbles and Breakout), as well as a built-in calculator.
The connectivity options provided by the G280R are also pretty standard, including here an SD card slot (for additional maps), as well as an USB 2.0 interface for connecting to a computer and a 3.5-mm stereo jack.
The NDrive G280R has an estimated retail price of 250 Euro (400 US dollars), which might not be that expensive, but taking into account the fact that the maps are restricted, for the time being, just to Spain, Italy and Portugal, chances are that it will be some time before this product will actually enjoy a high level of success. |
