Although the Amcor company has just made its presence known to the world back in the second half of 2007, when it came up with no less than 6 devices in one single swoop, the company's line-up is a pretty interesting one, providing anything from entry-level navigation features to high-end multimedia and communication options. And the device you're about to see as follows, namely the Amcor 3500, can clearly be considered the series' low-end version, as its overall features and specs are clearly targeting mostly budget users.
Thus, the 3500 is built around a 20-channel SiRF STAR III GPS receiver (no surprise here, almost every other manufacturer is using the exact same configuration), accompanied by a rather unimpressive 300 MHz Samsung CPU and 32 MB Flash / 64 MB RAM, used for running both the Microsoft WinCE.Net Core Version 4.2 and the iGO / Tele Atlas navigation software.
And since we're on the subject of navigation, it's important to note the fact that the PND has been equipped with a 3.5-inch TFT full-color touch screen, which provides a 320 x 240 pixels resolution, 350 cd / m2 brightness level and 16.7-million colors. Furthermore, the navigation maps come on SD cards, as the device supports memory cards with storage capacities of up to 2 GB, while the 3500 is capable of offering spoken instructions either via the built-in 1W speakers or headphones.
The device also offers users a premium set of multimedia features, which include photo viewing (bmp, jpg, gif, png), music (MP3, WAV) and video (AVI) playback. Furthermore, the whole device is powered by a rechargeable Lithium-Polymer battery (830 mAH), although no information regarding the available functioning life is provided.
The Amcor 3500 retails for around 170 – 190 US dollars, which is a pretty decent price tag for this rather simple, entry-level GPS personal navigation device. |
