Although the Binatone company is best-known as a manufacturer of various communication-related devices (phones, for example), it also managed to launch several other interesting products over the years, including here the Carrera series of GPS navigation devices. And this is exactly the type of product we'll talk about as follows, namely the Carrera X430 model, which is a bit more advanced than the X350 (but you shouldn't expect any miracles from it though).
The device is pretty much a straightforward GPS navigation unit, with few of the bells and whistles we encounter in modern PNDs. Thus, it has been equipped with a 4.3-inch LCD touch screen display, which can be used either for viewing the navigational maps (2D and 3D modes supported) or digital photos. Moreover, it also incorporates a 16-channel GPS receiver, but the company doesn't provide any specific details regarding the chipset's manufacturer.
Furthermore, the X430 sports an user-friendly multi-language GUI, which makes it quite easy for the drivers to navigate through the menus. The device also provides full turn-by-turn guidance with voice prompts (for which it has been equipped with both speakers and a headphone jack), not to mention the fact that it comes packed with a large number of POIs, which makes it easier for drivers to find the hotel, restaurant, petrol station or cinema closest to their location.
The X430 also sports 64 MB of SDRAM built-in, is powered by a rechargeable Li-Ion battery (2-3 hours of functioning life after a full charge), sports an SD card expansion slot and can also connect to a host computer via an USB 2.0 interface. It is run by a WinCE.NET 5.0 Core version operating system and uses navigational maps from Navteq.
The Carrera X430 GPS navigation device from Binatone retails for around 276 US dollars, which seems to be a pretty fair price to pay for this device, taking into account the set of features it has to offer. |
