Losing one's pet can be quite a trauma for a lot of people, and this is the reason why several pet tracking systems that use GPS technology have been released up until now. And this is exactly the type of device we'll talk about as follows, namely the Zoombak Advanced GPS Dog Locator, launched by Zoombak back in the second half of 2007, a tracker that employs both GSM and GPS technology in order keep the user informed regarding his/her pet's whereabouts at all times.
The secret behind the Zoombak locator is the fact that it's one of the first Assisted-GPS (“A-GPS”) devices designed specifically for use by everyday consumers. The A-GPS system uses both satellite-enabled GPS and mobile phone networks on the ground, which means that it can provide a superior level of accuracy in identifying a certain location.
In contrast to passive microchips that are surgically implanted under an animal’s skin and simply identify a pet’s owner only if the pet is found and taken to a vet, the Zoombak locator for pets helps owners to locate their pets in real time, whenever they wish, twenty four hours a day, 365 days a year, within the coverage area. This easy, safe solution monitors the pet and even lets the user know when they leave or return to a specially designated area, such as a home or a local park (geo-fencing).
The device is quite tough and can be very easily attached to a dog collar via a comfortable, durable, water resistant pouch attachment. Furthermore, the tracking device is powered by a rechargeable battery that can work for up to 5 days on standby or up to 150 location requests before recharging. Obviously, it's also quite portable, as it measures around 73 mm x 43 mm x 21 mm, at a weight of around 70 grams.
The Zoombak Advanced GPS Dog Locator retails for around 200 US dollars (plus 15 US dollars per month for the subscription fee), which is a pretty hefty price tag, all things considered. |
