Space is a very valuable commodity in our smaller and smaller kitchens, and this is the reason why more and more manufacturers of various kitchenware devices try to make them as small and compact as possible, in order to be able to provide users with very useful functions while occupying a very small storage space. And that's exactly the case with the Wall-Mounted Digital Scale And Clock presented by the people over at Hammacher Schlemmer in the second half of 2007, a device that combines two separate functions into a single device.
Thus, the wall-mounted digital clock has a removable food scale that can be placed on a countertop or table, eliminating the need to provide counter-space for both appliances. The scale is controlled entirely by a touchscreen, and it slides over the clock and locks into place. Moreover, when removed and used for weighing food or other items (up to 3.175 kilos), it uses an infrared signal to transmit its measurements in either metric or imperial readings to the easy-to-read backlit display mounted to the wall.
However, the device has yet another function to offer. Whenever it's not in use, the display can also be used for viewing the time and the room temperature (as the device also incorporates a clock and a thermometer). The device works entirely on batteries, but requires quite a lot of them (around 7 AAAs). But that surely won't be a problem, since this type of batteries are not only very easy to find, but also inexpensive.
The Wall-Mounted Digital Scale And Clock from Hammacher Schlemmer retails for around 90 US dollars, which is actually a pretty OK price to pay for this very versatile, multi-functional kitchen appliance. Not to mention the fact that you would practically be buying two devices in one.
