In the world of mobile communications there’s no doubt everyone has heard of Nokia. The company is the biggest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. Starting its brand with simple but reliable phones, over time, the company has been improving its portfolio and is now manufacturing high end multimedia phones. Nokia is also known for its business oriented phones.
One of the latest multimedia phones is the Nokia N79. This is one of those gadgets that kind of has most of the features available today. Starting with quad band support the phone is ready to use on any continent. The large 2.4” displays is among the best there is, featuring a 360x640 resolution and 16M display colors. Music lovers will also appreciate the standard 3.5mm audio jack and stereo speakers (yes, it’s a music phone).
The most interesting parts are the touchscreen controls and handwriting recognition capabilities. This allows for button-less operation and for a more user friendly experience. There's also a stylus included since you can't really write with your finger.
The internals of the device feature 81MB of memory (microSD is also there to help with up to 16GB of storage), 128SD ram and an ARM 11 processor. As far as connectivity goes we have GPRS, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0. The Wi-Fi features UPnP technology which helps with router negotiations and other connection problems. If Bluetooth is not an option you can also connect the to the PC using a microUSB cable.
The Nokia 5800 comes with the latest Symbian OS, incarnation 9.4. This means that the UI comes with all the bells and whistles. It also features a 3Mpixel camera with VGA recording at 30fps. For video communications there’s also a secondary camera.
On to the exotic features side we find GPS functions, Nokia Maps 2.0, audio and video player (LOL), FM radio with RDS and TV out capabilities. |
