Netgear has always been a pretty prestigious network solution provider, especially in the SOHO area, where it ships a lot of inexpensive devices. Ranging from classical wired network adapters to very complex Wireless-N routers with integrated firewalls, Netgears offers quality products at an affordable price.
RangeMax Next WNR854N series represents one of the latest products in the Wireless-N range developed by Netgear. The WNR854T extends the possibilities of your wireless home network by providing wireless speeds of up to 300Mbps. The very high data throughput is being created by a MIMO transmitter capable of using even the smallest signal reflections in order to obtain the maximum possible speed.
A RangeMax Next wireless network creates and maintains stable connections and enough bandwidth to surf the Internet, download MP3s, make Internet phone calls, share files, play network games, and stream high-definition videos, simultaneously. While that may seem a little too much at first, in practice, in a direct link setup the router can provide speeds exceeding the physical limit of a 10/100 RJ-45 wired connections.
Because of that, Netgear has integrated a faster Gigabit 4-port switch able to sustain much higher data throughputs. As a result you not only get a very fast AP with secure routing capabilities such as WEP, WPA-PSK, or WPA2-PSK but also a 4-way Gigabit switch.
The setup is pretty simple as you only have to configure the SPI firewall and the NAT/DHCP settings. The WNR854T series is easy to spot due to the fact that Netgear has a pretty good channel support. However the pricing is an issue since if you find it you'll have to pay at least about $180 per unit.
