One of the nastiest things that can happen to any person sailing on a boat is to drop their binoculars in the water and watch them plummet towards the bottom of the pond/lake/river/sea/ocean. It would seem that this is a pretty frequent situation, and this is the reason why the people over at Frontgate have come up with the Buoyant Marine Binoculars, a pair of optical instruments that, beside being able to provide a very good image quality, will even float on water if dropped.
This is because the binoculars are wrapped in a rugged, shockproof rubber armor that actually floats in water, and feature a sealed O-ring for complete waterproof protection. Moreover, the binoculars sport a very ergonomic design, meant to assure a very secure grip and thus prevent the item from being dropped in the water.
As mentioned earlier, the Buoyant Marine Binoculars also provide very good optical features, as they incorporate BAK-4 prisms that allow for quite crisp imaging. Moreover, the lenses are dry nitrogen-purged and sealed to prevent fogging, clouding and moisture damage, and the binoculars also include an internal rangefinder and directional compass. And if you were wondering about the level of magnification, it's worth mentioning that the binoculars feature 7x magnification and 50mm objective lens.
The optical device presented by Frontgate is roughly the same size of a normal pair of binoculars, as it measures around 17.78 cm x 8.89 cm x 19.68 cm. The device retails for around 200 US dollars which, although it might seem like a pretty big sum, it's actually a pretty fair one, considering the fact that the Buoyant Marine Binoculars are completely waterproof and provide a very good flotation level. |
