Acer is one of the leading manufacturers of computer hardware products. Most notably, they are known for offering some of the best consumer range portable computer systems, but they are also known for their display sector. In March 2008, the company decided it was time for a change in their notebook series, so two new products emerged. Both of them were dubbed Acer Aspire Gemstone Blue and each model offered some impressive performance and aesthetic features. The highest priced model was the Aspire 8920.
The Gemstone design has been present in Acer's product line even since May 2007, when it marked a turning point in its product strategy. The Aspire 8920 and 6920 Gemstones brought some obvious changes in the design of Acer's notebooks, but also provided a number of features that were new to the market. The 8920 marks a first-in-market feature, which is a gorgeous 18.4 LCD display. The feature allows the Acer notebook to render a full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, for enhanced quality of HD movies. The 6920 model also features a first-in-market 16 inch LCD display.
Opening the Gemstone will reveal some other interesting design features, the most noticeable one being dubbed Acer CineDash media console. A touch-sensitive interface that will allow you to manage entertainment and media applications as well as navigating menus, adjusting volume and controlling your media on the fly. As this notebook has been designed with a built-in Blu-ray optical drive, the CineDash console might prove quite useful.
Both 8920 and 6920 Gemstones feature the second generation Dolby Home Theater, which will provide some high quality audio. Empowering your Audio system is the Acer Tuba CineBass, which is said to be the world's first unique tube-type booster designed with larger subwoofer capacity. The technical specs on the this Aspire include the latest Intel PM965 Express chipset and graphics support from NVIDIA's GeForce 9650M GS, which can offer a total of 1280 MB of TurboCache. |
