Acer is one of the biggest manufactures of portable computer systems worldwide, with products mainly targeting the consumer range. Their most successful series, as far as notebooks are concerned, are undoubtedly the Aspire and TravelMate. Their Aspire line was extended in the first half of 2007 with a premium product, dubbed the Aspire 9920. A notebook that featured all of the latest technologies in computing power and graphics support.
With the new release, Acer once again followed the design line which they've launched back in May 2007 and was to become the company's main design theme. With the Aspire 9920, Acer wanted to go further than simple design features and offer a strong-built portable platform for enthusiast users needing the most out of their notebook. This may be the reason why they've decided to go with the new Santa Rosa platform and build this Aspire on a Intel PM965 Express chipset. The Aspire 9920 was mainly designed for users needing the ultimate in entertainment.
As the notebook was designed for entertainment applications, it provides a huge (as far as notebook go) 20.1-inch WSXGA+ high-brightness LCD display. The graphics support is provided by the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphic card, which packs 512MB of GDDR2 memory and support for Microsoft's API DirectX 10. Along with the NVIDIA PureVideo Technology, this notebook is ready to render some high quality graphics. While video quality is high, audio support is provided in the form of a Dolby-certified surround sound system with two built-in stereo speakers and one subwoofer.
On the communications' side, this Aspire has been equipped with almost anything one might require. Starting from support for the latest wireless Draft N technology and ending with the integrated Acer Crystal Eye webcam, this notebook should be all you need on your travels. And with a price tag of approximately $1700 it can pass as a great deal. |
