Founded in 1984, Dell rapidly grew during the 90's, becoming one of the leading PS and server manufacturers. The company now sells TVs, network switches, PCs, servers and other IT related peripherals. As a leading notebook manufacturer Dell is compelled in delivering innovative designs together with extended functionality.
The Dell Studio line of notebooks comes as a mediator between the company's Inspiron and XPS series. Although not build to be the top of the line in the notebook domain, the Studio 1735 comes with some impressive features and is set to deliver outstanding performance.
The first think to notice when opening the the lid is the huge17” LCD. With an 1920x1200 resolution the display is Full HD compliant and will prove great for HD movies. As this is a 17” laptop, the size and weight (almost 4kg) don't really make it a prime candidate for portable tasks. Notebooks in this range are considered more as desktop replacements. And with the integrated Radeon HD3650 graphics card the device can sure run some very demanding games.
Visually wise, the notebook looks pretty sleek with an original hinge design, a black full QWERTY keyboard complete with numeric keypad and a gloss coated screen for more vibrant color reproduction.
By outfitting the 1735 with 4GB of RAM (and an Intel Core 2 Duo 64bit CPU), Dell is advising users to use a 64bit OS in order to take advantage of the entire memory. Although not a must-have for the home user class, especially since this is marked as a desktop replacement, the device uses a fingerprint reader for improved security (don't want those kids to stumble upon those kinky movies downloaded of the Internet).
On the tech side we have an Intel Core 2 Duo at 2,6 GHz, dual 320GB HDDs, 5 USB ports, VGA and HDMI outputs, FireWire, Bluetooth and Wireless connectivity. All of them managed by the Intel PM965 chipset and powered by a 9 cell battery.
If the price tag of almost $2000 is a bit over your budget you should know that Dell can customize the laptop with a crappier screen, dumber CPU, less storage space and a weaker battery, while cutting some green of the price. |
