Since pretty much everybody is rolling out portable media players these days, it's actually no wonder that the German company Grundig has done the exact same thing. The manufacturer has come up with a pretty extensive line of PMPs, the most impressive being the MPixx 8800 FM/8GB, which combines some rather standard playback capabilities with a more or less acceptable amount of memory and an FM tuner.
The MPixx 8800 offers everything one might expect from a modern PMP, but that's pretty much it. So, customers are offered a 2.4-inch TFT LCD display with touchscreen technology, capable of displaying videos at 320 x 240 pixels resolution, in no less than 16 million colors.
And since we've mentioned the video files above, it's time to take a look at this product's list of compatibility options. Thus, besides the MPEG files (obtained via the provided transcoding software), the Mpixx 8800 also supports MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG and JPEG formats, and even includes a text viewer for text files (which brings an important contribution to the lyrics and subtitle function).
Another interesting feature of the Mpixx 8800 is related to the available storage capacity. The PMP comes with 8 GB of built-in, internal flash memory, but also sports a Micro-SD memory card slot, which supports memory cards with capacities of up to 8 GB. This way, users can enjoy a maximum capacity of 16 GB, which is quite OK for most people.
Other important components worth mentioning are the built-in FM tuner, as well as the 3.7 V lithium polymer battery , which offers up to 22 hours of functioning life. Additionally, the device also offers clear menu navigation, fear protection (volume fading), a customized EQ, slide show function, background images, e-book reader, resume function, digital watch, calendar, calculator, alarm function, 12 European languages selectable, automatic switch-off in sleep time mode, etc.
The MPixx 8800 FM/8GB can be purchased starting at around 160 Euro (240 US dollars), depending on the particular vendor, which makes it a rather affordable product, compared to the numerous other similar devices existing on the market. |
