The huge level of popularity enjoyed by digital photography over the past couple of years has lead to the appearance of all sorts of accessories for this specific field, digital photo (or picture) frames being among the best-known products of this type. And that's exactly the type of device we'll talk about as follows, namely the DPF-101 from Sapphire, a display which combines a very attractive external design with a series of more or less standard features for this brand of products. The DPF-101 features a 10-inch TFT LCD screen, which displays images at 800x480 pixels resolution and a native 16:9 aspect ratio. Furthermore, the brightness level of the screen is a pretty good one as well, namely around 250 cd/m2. Beside digital photos in JPEG or M-JPEG format, the device can also be used as some sort of media player, since it supports MPEG, DAT and AVI video files. Plus, in order to render audio as well as video, the digital frame also sports 2 x 1.5 W speakers. Like most other similar products available on the market, the digital frame from Sapphire has been equipped with a memory card reader, which works with some of the most common formats on the market, including here CF1,CFII,SD,XD,MS,MMC. Unfortunately, though, the device only supports memory cards with capacities of up to 2 GB, which somewhat reduces its overall level of functionality. The DPF-101 also offers users a small amount of built-in flash memory (128 MB), onto which users can upload photos from their PC via an USB 2.0 interface and cable. Sapphire's DPF-101 sells for an estimate 180 US dollars, which is slightly below the average for 10-inch frames (probably the lack of wireless connectivity forced manufacturers and retailers to lower the price tags). |
