The iPod is one of the world's most popular music players but, up until the release of the iPhone, the only way in which one could connect Apple's portable music player to a mobile phone was through some sort of adapter. And that's exactly the type of device we'll talk about as follows, namely the BluEye presented by Gear4, an accessory that can turn any iPod into a Bluetooth communication device.
Thus, when the BluEye is connected, whenever the user receives a call on the paired mobile, the iPod’s tunes automatically stop and a ring-tone cuts in. The in-coming number appears on the iPod’s screen and the user can either accept or reject the call using the BluEye buttons.
Should the user decide to accept the call, the BluEye will pick up his/her voice via its inbuilt microphone and they'll hear the caller’s voice through the headphones. so that the mobile can always be kept in a safe location. Furthermore, once the call is finished, the music will automatically cut back in.
As well as connecting to one's mobile phone and iPod, the BluEye also acts as an FM receiver, which means that it allows users to listen to their favorite radio stations on the iPod. However, should the user decide to simply employ the iPod for its basic function (music player), the BluEye provides an extra-level of functionality, as it doubles as a remote control with play/pause, volume control and track skip functionality.
The device from Gear4 works with a wide range of iPod models, including here the iPod Touch, iPod Classic , iPod Nano, iPod Video, Nano 2G, iPod 4G Colour, iPod mini, iPod Nano 1G. The BluEye retails for around 100 US dollars, which is a bit pricey for such an item, but, then again, most iPod accessories are. |
