Headplay Personal Cinema S...
[ View all gadgets from Headplay ]

In today's ultra-portable world, the possibility of viewing certain video materials in optimum conditions while we're away from home has become extremely important. Unfortunately, though, the displays fitted on the various portable media devices available on the market are not exactly wide, while laptops and notebooks could prove to be quite difficult to handle, especially on busy public transport systems.

This situation has lead to the development of some specialized products (currently, still pretty niche devices), namely the video glasses, which can reproduce the experience of viewing video materials on a widescreen display, while you're wearing a pair of normal glasses.

And that's exactly the type of device the Headplay company has developed, as they tout it to be the world's first personal cinema system (or PCS), considering the fact that the system can make you fell as if you were watching the images played back on a 1.3 meters wide display, with a full audio surround system.

Well, perhaps the manufacturers are exaggerating a bit here, but the Headplay system is nevertheless a very interesting one, especially since, unlike other similar systems, it features LCOS display technology, which allows the user to view 3D content, as well as 2D. Moreover, it can work even in the absence of an external media device, considering the fact that it has been fitted with an CF card reader.

Even if it includes its own media player, the Headplay portable cinema also features analog video and audio outputs, a VGA input, stereo sound, a 3D video processing engine and a very user-friendly control system.

The Headplay personal cinema system is more expensive that the other similar products available on the market, selling for around 500 US dollars a piece, which is somewhat reasonable, especially if we were to take into account the fact that we're dealing with some pretty new and extremely innovative technology.
