Portable DVD players have been around for several years now, although they’re seriously threatened by PMPs nowadays. However, there was a time when they reigned supreme, and one of the devices from that age is the MVDP1077 model launched by Memorex back in early 2006, a portable player that provides users with a 7-inch display as well as support for a wide range of writable/rewritable media.
One of the main selling points of any portable DVD player is the display. This is why the people from Memorex have fitted the MVDP1077 model with a high-resolution, active matrix TFT LCD display capable of playing multimedia content in the 16:9 aspect mode. Moreover, since we’re talking about a portable device, the screen is scratch resistant and can also handle bumps quite well, since the whole player features an advanced anti-shock protection system.
However, the most important feature offered by the MVDP1077 is the compatibility with a large number of disc formats. Thus, the device provides DVD, DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW, CD-R/-RW, CD+R/+RW and picture CD playback capabilities, since it features a built-in MP3 decoder, as well as a Dolby Digital decoder capable of 2-channel down mixed (AC3) output. And since such enhanced music processing capabilities deserve more than just headphones, the device also sports its own set of built-in stereo speakers.
Memorex’s portable DVD player incorporates a standard set of connectivity options, including an Audio/Video output, a S-Video output and a headphone jack. Moreover, it supports both PAL and NTSC video formats and comes with its own IR remote control that provides users with full access to all the player’s functions.
The users won’t have any problems carrying the device around, since it measures 20.82 cm x 17.27 cm x 4.57 cm, and neither will they find the charging process to be difficult, since the device sports a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery with up to 2.5 hour battery life, charged via the included AC/DC adapter.
The MVDP1077 is available online at several retailers for around $89.99 - $109.99, which seems to be a relatively fair price range for such a versatile device. |
