As they're specialized in the development of remote controlling solutions, the guys over at Universal Remote Controls have, quite obviously, launched quite an extensive line-up of such devices over time, including quite a large number of “display-less” models. And that's the type of device we'll talk about as follows, namely the R7 model launched by the company back in the second half of 2005, a portable controlling solution that provides an enhanced level of functionality and control over the user's various devices.
Thus, the R7 is actually the high-end version of the whole range of “display-less” remotes, being able to replace up to 7 difference remote controls as well as to issue commands towards most A/V components.
Moreover, the device comes packed with a MacroPower button, which allows users to program the R7 in order to turn up to 7 components ON or OFF with the press of one button. Moreover, the included SimpleSound feature gives users total volume control over all the components in their system, even those that do not have their own built-in volume control, such as TiVo, DVD and VCR.
The R7 is quite a smart remote control, as it allows users to pre-program it, as well as “teach” it new codes and macros, since it can retain up to 160 IR commands at standard frequencies (15 kHz to 100 kHz) and sports up to 9 macro buttons, each with up to 20 commands (the steps). Moreover, the device is also capable of retaining programming without batteries for up to 10 years and features backlit buttons, which makes things a lot more visible even in dark rooms.
The R7 universal remote control is available at various retailers for around 35 US dollars, which is actually quite an OK price to pay for such a device, if we take into consideration all the features this thing has to offer. |
