The Tivoli Pal has been designed initially as a portable version of the Model One, but has quickly managed to gain a personality of its own, setting a new standard among the ranks of other small-sized, portable radio units, thanks to its excellent craftsmanship and high-class audio performance. Built from the start with a compact construction destined to go anywhere, the Tivoli Pal behaves equally well inside or in open spaces; it will match with pretty much any style, from the casual young fashion up to the elegant and stylish formal or business wear.

This small radio can be placed in any corner of your room, on tabletops and bookshelves or it can be easily stowed away in a beach bag to let you enjoy your fav tracks on the move. Everything about the Tivoli Pal is high-class, simple and sturdy, with a weather-resistant, rubberized cabinet and easy-to-use controls; the built-in NiMH rechargeable battery will spare you the trouble of buying batteries, while the dual AC/DC operation will let you use the Tivoli Pal on boats and inside other vehicles or Rvs. The charger is also built-in, for less fuss and more comfort; and the battery status indicator will give you real-time data on how charged your battery is, so you'll never remain without audio.

The speaker inside the Tivoli Pal is a 2.5-inch full-range treated one, delivering solid bass and shimmering highs for a pristine and punchy listening; while magnetically shielded, this driver allows you to use the Tivoli Pal near computers or TVs. The Henry Kloss analog AM/FM tuner comes with a drift-free reception and a precise 5:1 ratio tuning dial for easily getting to the desired frequence; the built-in telescoping FM antenna will add quality to your listening especially in places where the reception isn't at it's best.

And in case you feel like sharing your fav tunes stored on a mobile device such as an MP3 Player or iPod, the Tivoli Pal sports a 3.5mm stereo Aux In jack for easily hooking these music sources. Or if you feel like listening in private, the headphones jack is also present. The Tivoli Pal retails for just under $220, making a great gift as well.

Sybil did you ever make that alternative battery? I have owned a Tivoli PAL for over 3 years and love it. But now it will not turn on unless pluged in. Once it's turned on I can remove the AC adapter and it will play for many hours. I'm on my second battery pack. If the battery is bad how can it play so long once it turns on with the AC adapter? It appears the PAL is discontinued. I wonder if it's because of the problem I'm experiencing?

Shoddy Ni-MH Battery Packs?

My experience with 3 supplied battery packs are that they are lucky to completely recharge over the first 100 cycles; and are useless well before 200. (I intend to have an alternative made up: hopefully with a better lifespan and possibly an increased [2000mAh?] capacity).

Having the mains connection plugged in, although not switched on, seems to aid FM reception - by possibly acting as an antenna.

I turn down the sound when switching between FM and AM to mute background noise with rotating the tuning dial. Were the OFF position between the FM and AM selections this would not be necessary.

I hooked up my pal, using the headphone jack,to my passive Bose speaker system.I found that it has much less low bass than the system normally has using any other source on the bose system.Does anybody know what the frequency response is on the earphone jack output.

PROBLEM with Battery RECHARGING cutting out!

On my third battery pack I've finally figured out that the internal battery charger is overly sensitive to other appliances cutting in and out on the same electrical circuit. In winter the electric fan on my gas space heater seems to cause this, but not the frig. BTW the newer 1400mah seems to have the same capacity as the original 1200mah: and both take 2h52m to fully recharge.
