The world we live in is an increasingly portable one, especially since PMPs are now capable of delivering a full range of entertainment options even while being on the go. However, even these ultra-portable players do have their shortcomings, one of the most important ones being related to their screen size. For this reason, the VideoMagi company has released the vMagi X1, a pair of seemingly ordinary glasses that allow users to view their favorite videos in their full size.
Actually, what we're dealing with here are a couple of dual TFT LCD displays, which give users the illusion of a floating 35-inch widescreen TV as if they were standing over 6.5 ft. away. Moreover, these glasses have a very special optical design, which allows for safe and comfortable viewing and the included interfaces allow them to work with a very wide variety of video signal generators, ranging from the iPod video to various game consoles, DVD players and even some computers.
The video-glasses work with both NTSC/PAL systems, which means that they can be safely used just about anywhere around the world. Moreover, they provide a color depth of 24 bits, a 320x240 pixels resolution, as well as some pretty OK viewing angles, of 26 degrees on both horizontal and vertical directions.
Additionally, the vMagi X1 also offer dual-channel stereo sound and are powered by a 480mAH Lithium-Ion battery, which offers an overall functioning life of around 4-5 hours (battery charged via the USB cable included in the sales package).
The vMagi X1 is, however, a pretty expensive A/V accessory, as it retails for around 300 US dollars, a price point which still sets it outside the possibilities of a large number of users out there.
