Indifferent of the field of activity every person performs into, it's obvious to everybody that clothes are not only clothing items anymore, but they, most of the time, double as high-end technology displayers, with functional and/or entertaining purposes. Interactivity is the keyword when it comes to technology encapsulated into fashion.
The NavJacket is a collaboration between O’Neill’s Wearable Electronic group and MyGuide - a company delivering GPS navigation solutions.
The NavJacket will help you to navigate through terrain you are not familiar with by entering your desired location and guiding you through the back country. There are two ways the guidance is done; either via a display (OLED) on the sleeve or via voice guidance via the headphones integrated into the hood of the jackets.
But the O’Neill team didn’t stop here. Your current speed, up-to-date local weather forecasts, and in-depth details about your route, such as distance and time have all been incorporated into the flexible display on the sleeve of the jacket.
Another cool feature planned for the NavJacket is the friend finder function, which will allow you to either track down friends, or choose to follow their path through the slopes. Introduced end of last year, this ground breaking intelligent jacket proofs once again the innovative leadership of O’Neill’s H-Division team in the wearable electronic market.
The final version of the NavJacket has a lightly different arm display than the originally released prototype, a more conventional color LCD display similar to what we use in our electronic gadgets although snugly integrated and protected against rough rides down the slopes.
The NavJacket helps navigating in the wilderness of the mountains, especially when visibility becomes suddenly low. All you have to do is enter the place you want to end up and it will guide you down safely. The NavJacket is made of high performance Gore-Tex material. Price and effective launch date is not yet available but we will stay on the lookout and post about as soon as it becomes public.
