Extreme sports used to be the refuge from the relentless world of people with wild spirits until now. However, recently, this field of activity seems to have become more and more gadget-crowded, with pieces of equipment transforming into cell phones, cameras and portable media players.

If so far snowboarding and skiing were solitary and somewhat meditative activities, thanks to heavy names in the industry of winter sports gear, athletes can now benefit from high-tech equipment, which can either provide them entertainment or increased features, to make their activity easier than ever before, not to mention more pleasurable.

Keeping your fingers warm while outdoors, in sub-zero temperatures, has never been as easy as it is now. Heated gloves are coming to the market in rapid succession lately, ranging from simple products where the heat is regulated manually, up to the latest breed of heated gloves

Interactive Wear developed a technology platform called “iTermX” which is a heating solution for any kind of textiles that is smaller, lighter and more flexible than conventional solutions on the market and the Solaris ski glove is the first product that has this new system implemented and is manufactured at a larger scale by a high end brand like Reusch.

The ThermoTec textile heating system, which is based on Interactive Wear’s iThermX technology, regulates the heat supply via a micro controller is monitored by sensors. Energy is only supplied when the temperature drops below a pre-set limit at portions of the wearer’s hand that are sensitive to the cold.

Using special, highly flexible heating elements, heat is generated selectively within the glove without restricting movement. Two low-profile, lightweight rechargeable lithium-ion batteries supply each system with power.

These gloves offer the comfort of ideal warmth with a heating capacity of up to five hours, and the heating system weight in at a maximum of just approximately 70 grams per glove. To ensure flexible usage, the wearer can choose from among three different operational modes: either constant heating or one of two pre-programmed, sensor-monitored, comfortable temperatures within the glove. A LED indicates the selected mode, and single-button control unit with a simple design enables easy and reliable operation.

I owned these gloves and can not say a good thing about them other than the glove itself was high quality. The system leaves a ton to be desired. battery life is awful, at med setting 96min at an outside temp in the 20's (F). Batteries are not removable so you can not carry extra's. BUT THE WORST PART IS THAT REUSCH REFUSES TO RESPOND TO EMAILS I HAVE SENT THERE PRODUCT MANAGER TO DISCUSS MY DISSATISFACTION WITH THERE PRODUCT!!! For $400 a pair the least I should get is a response. The local distributor has been great but it is totally out of there hands since they did not make or market the glove.

Advice stay away from Reusch Products and if heated gloves are the way you want to go, try a product by Thermic, they work and they have removable batteries so you can get an entire day out of two sets of batteries at 0 degress (F).
