Fanatec was founded in 1998 and is part of a larger German coprporation named Endor AG. Its main goal is developing advance gaming controllers for the PlayStation or the PC. One of the console-only products is the Zero G Controller for the PS2.
The device has an official license from Sony, and by the looks of it the folks over at Fanatec did a great job developing the product. First of all it resembles the original PS2 controller by a factor of 90%. The color scheme is identical and button placement is the same. The important differences are mostly under the hood. Standard controller actions buttons have been replaced with pressure sensitive replicas, and the new device features long horns (somewhat like the gamecube controller) for a better grip.
The controller actually comes in two versions: first is the Zero G Motion Controller, and second comes the Zero G Wireless Controller. Both feature the same solid quality build, but the Motion version offers Morion control completely replacing the actions of the left analog stick. Motion detection is optional and is done via a Triaxial acceleration sensor. So the first controller can work in digital, analog or motion mode. By the way, it has a 2,4 m long cable.
The second version is the same only without the motion sensing feature, but with wireless capabilities. Fanatec promises very low latencies and 300 hours of battery life (although I`ll have to see this to believe it).
Ohh....and if you`re still wondering, YES they both come with vibration features!
The motion controlled version comes at a 24,99 euros (34$) RRP and the wireless brother has at about 29,99 euros (41$) RRP. |
