Despite of the fact that the current trend in gaming controllers in general and gamepads in particular is to make them compatible with just about any platform out there, Logitech seems to have chosen the other way, namely that of releasing separate products for PCs or the various gaming consoles available on the market. And one of the best examples is the Cordless Rumblepad 2 gamepad from Logitech, launched back in the second half of 2004, a device that, with a little tweaking could have worked perfectly the PS2 and PS3 gaming consoles.
Instead, the Cordless Rumblepad 2 is compatible just with PC and Mac systems, but, nevertheless, it does manage to do a very good job in this particular area. And the most important reason why anyone would like to use such a peripheral is represented by the built-in dual vibration feedback motors, which will help deliver a much more immersive gaming experience.
The device's layout is rather “classic” (since it resembles quite a lot that of the PS2 and PS3 controllers). The gamepad features 10 programmable buttons, dual analog controls, as well as mode and vibration selectors.
Additionally, as the name says it, the Cordless Rumblepad 2 requires no wires in order to connect to a PC, using the 2.4 GHz radio frequency instead. The device offers the same range as all of the other products working on the same radio frequency, namely around 30 feet (or 10 meters). The device works on rechargeable batteries, which offer a functioning autonomy of around 100 hours.
The Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 sells for around 40 US dollars, which is a rather hefty price tag (given the fact that, after all, we're talking about a device whose design has remained virtually unchanged for several years). However, for this sum, users will also get a 2.4 GHz wireless receiver, 2 AA batteries, the necessary User documentation, as well Gaming software. |
